About OET

OET is an international English language test that assesses the language proficiency of health care professionals seeking to register with the NMC or GMC in the UK. This is the test that your future employers are going to ask for as it provides a validated and reliable assessment of all four language skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing – where the emphasis is on healthcare settings. OET is relevant to all health care professions: Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Optometry, Radiography and many other disciplines.

How demanding is OET?

You probably know already how demanding the examination is. However, at IME, we can provide you with appropriate preparation and practice candidates can and do succeed. The advantage OET presents over IELTS is that OET is related to your area of clinical expertise.

  • Listening – understand patient consultations, lecture, presentations, interviews
  • Reading – read and understand different health related texts
